Ancient Egypt was very interesting and mysterious. It still captures many people today. Ancient Egypt used papyrus as their paper, which developed into our paper that we use today, excelled in astronomy, created a bad breath killer, and made curing the sick much easier.
Papyrus
Since there was no paper in the Ancient Egyptian time, they used papyrus. The papyrus was to grow up to 5 meters, and the leaves of the papyrus tree were joined through gum and the long roll was prepared. They wrote by dipping the pen inside the ink pot, and writing what they needed to. Papyrus was how the Ancient Egyptians wrote their daily rules, jobs, and duties.
Astronomy
The Ancient Egyptians excelled greatly in astronomy. They divided the calendar into 360 days, but needed to add 5 extra days dedicated to worshipping the Gods, known as holy days. They could predict lunar and solar eclipses, and made a calendar showing the movements of all of the stars and planets and stars. The Ancient Egyptians helped us learn about the planets, and created a calendar that we follow every day of every year.
Breath Mints
In Ancient Egypt, bad breath was considered poor dental health. They invented breath mints, because the stones they used to grind flour or bread contained sand, which wore down their teeth, which lead to infection. The breath mints included frankincense, myrrh, and cinnamon, boiled with honey, and finished in the shape of a pellet. We no longer have bad smelling breath, thanks to Ancient Egyptian breath mints!
Medicine
The Ancient Egyptians influenced medicine for many years after their civilization ended. They were skilled with corpses because of embalming dead bodies. They recorded over 800 medical procedures and remedies, and used over 600 drugs and surgical tools. We owe most of our medical advances to Ancient Egypt!
